A Romanian tradition says that on the 1st of March men offer women little decorative objects (animals, flowers,etc) called Martisor, made of varied materials such as wood, plastic, glass, and so on, tied with a red&white thread .
Women wear most of the Martisor they”re offered, pinned on their blouses, till the 8th of March.
At first Martisor symbolized the begining of the Spring and the rebirth of nature.
Nowadays it is also a good oportunity for small retailers to increase their sales.
